How does an AI skill assessment work?
From a job description to a shortlist ranked by skill, in four steps.
- 01 · Build
Paste the JD. Get a role based test.
Hirin.ai picks the skills that matter for the role and builds a test around them: coding problems, MCQs, SQL, short scenarios and spoken answers, set to the right level and length. Edit any question or add your own.
- 02 · Take
Candidates take it when it suits them, on any device.
The test link goes out on WhatsApp and email. Candidates take it on mobile or laptop with a timer per section, while integrity checks run quietly in the background.
- ATimed sections
- BMobile and laptop
- CIntegrity checks, reviewed by a person
- 03 · Scored
Every answer type, scored its own way.
Code runs against hidden test cases. MCQs and SQL are checked instantly. Written and spoken answers are scored against your rubric, with the evidence quoted. You see why every score is what it is.
- 04 · Compared
Shortlist by skills, not by CV.
Skill reports line candidates up side by side, so strengths and gaps show at a glance. The strongest move straight to an AI video interview or a panel round, with the gaps to probe already noted.
Watch a coding answer get scored, test case by test case.
This is the technical first round your senior engineer would otherwise review by hand. The candidate writes code, Hirin.ai runs it against hidden test cases, checks complexity and code quality, and writes the report your hiring manager reads.

How is an AI skill assessment different from CV screening and manual technical rounds?
A CV tells you what a candidate says they can do. A manual technical round tells you, but only a few at a time and only as well as the interviewer that day. A skill assessment shows every candidate's work, scored the same way.
| What matters | Hirin.ai skill assessment | CV screening | Manual technical round |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it measures | What the candidate can do, on role based tasks | What the candidate says they can do | Depends on the interviewer |
| Who reviews | AI scores every answer, people check flags and finalists | A recruiter reading CVs | A senior engineer, one by one |
| Consistency | Same test and rubric for everyone | Varies by reader | Varies by interviewer and day |
| Speed | Scores within minutes of submitting | Fast, but shallow | Days, waiting on tech leads |
| Cheating | Integrity checks flagged for a person to review | Inflated CVs go unnoticed | Hard to spot on video calls |
| Scale | Hundreds of candidates a day | Hundreds of CVs, no proof | A few a day |
| Evidence | Test cases, quotes and rubric on every score | Keywords on a page | Notes, if any |
How many review hours would your team get back?
Assumes about minutes to review each test by hand, and that % need a second reviewer. Change them to match your team.
That's time your tech leads and recruiters could spend interviewing the candidates who passed, and closing them.

Questions about AI skill assessments
What is an AI skill assessment?
An AI skill assessment is a role based test that is built and scored by AI. Hirin.ai turns your job description into coding, technical, situational and communication questions, scores every answer against a rubric with the evidence shown, and ranks candidates by what they can do rather than what their CV says. Assessments can be sent automatically as a step in recruitment automation.
How does AI score a skill assessment test?
Each answer type is scored its own way. Code runs against hidden test cases and is checked for complexity and quality. MCQs and SQL answers are checked instantly. Written and spoken answers are scored against your rubric, with the parts of the answer that earned the score quoted, so your team can see and overrule any score.
What kinds of tests can Hirin.ai run?
Coding tests, technical assessments, SQL and Excel tests, MCQs, written scenarios, and communication skills tests with spoken answers. You can mix sections in one test, for example a coding problem, a short design question and a spoken answer for a client facing role. Coding tests are the usual choice for IT hiring.
Can AI skill assessments be proctored?
Yes. Remote proctoring checks things like tab switches, copy and paste, and answers that look AI written. Anything unusual is flagged for a person on your team to review. Hirin.ai never rejects or ends a test automatically because of a flag.
Can candidates use ChatGPT to cheat on the test?
Hirin.ai makes it harder and easier to spot. Questions can be varied for each candidate, answers that look AI written are flagged for review, and spoken and follow up questions show whether the candidate understands their own answer. A flag starts a human review, not an automatic rejection.
Are AI skill tests fair to candidates?
Every candidate for a role gets the same kind of test, scored against the same rubric, and every score shows its evidence, so it can be checked and overruled. Candidates can take the test at a time that suits them on their own device. Hirin.ai is built to support India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
How long should a pre employment test be?
Long enough to test the skills that matter and short enough that good candidates finish it. Most first round tests in Hirin.ai run 30 to 45 minutes, split into timed sections.
Can I use my own questions in Hirin.ai?
Yes. You can edit the questions Hirin.ai suggests, add your own, or pick from the question library, and set the rubric for written and spoken answers yourself.
Can Hirin.ai test English and communication skills for BPO hiring?
Yes. A communication skills test can include spoken answers to customer scenarios, scored for clarity, grammar and how well the candidate handles the situation, which suits voice process and customer support hiring at volume. Communication tests are common in BFSI hiring for customer facing roles.
Will skill tests replace our technical interviews?
No. They replace the first filter. Your tech leads stop reviewing every take home test and spend their interviews with candidates who have already shown they can do the work, with the skill gaps to probe already noted. For a spoken check before the test, AI voice screening calls the candidate first.
